Ignite, part 2: From Hard Heart to Harvest
Bible Text: Matthew 9:35-38 | Preacher: Craig Knisley | Series: Ignite | Slides: 2020-01-19 IGNITE 2 harvest
35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.
36 When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;
38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
Our Problem: We don’t get it!
Bill Lawrence: ” But it [the church] must be more than a cul-de-sac, a dead-end, to which we all come after a hard week to be together and enjoy one another. When we think this way, we are confusing earth with eternity and trying to get to heaven too soon. In heaven, we will be with only ‘our kind of people,’ but on earth, Jesus has called us to go forth from our nice, safe churches into the real world of sin to accomplish His purpose of making disciples.”
Core Question: How do we move from a hard heart to a heart for the harvest?
1. Learning from King Jesus!
a. Jesus went. (v. 35)
b. Jesus saw. (v. 36)
c. Jesus challenged. (vs. 37 – 38)
2. Applying it today!
a. Leave the building!
b. Open your eyes!
c. Be __________! (1 Peter 3:15)
C.T. Studd (missionary): “Some want to live within the sound of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.”
